Classes in Mini-group or One-on-one?

In mini-groups a minimum of two and a maximum of six Spanish students study together. It is very important to us that the participants of a mini-group study together with others of a corresponding level of proficiency. This, however, is not always the case. If we do not have a group according to your level of proficiency we offer you 12 hours of one-on-one classes instead of 20 hours of classes in a mini-group.
One-on-one classes are tailored to your individual requirements in every regard. You yourself can determine content and rhythm of learning, be it more conversation or more grammar, vocabulary related to a specific field of interest or everyday speech, our teachers are quick to realize how they can best serve your needs.

How and with what material do we teach?

Be it one-on-one classes or mini-groups, we work with interactive and diverse methods. The South American Spanish or “Castellano” is a little different from the “Spanish” Spanish. However, the majority of the best teaching material comes from Spain. Our team has therefore compiled their own praxis-related textbook for the basic level. For advanced learners we have a large variety of textbooks the implementation of which is individually adapted to the individual interests and previous knowledge of the learners.
In addition to that you can borrow books in our library that has readings and literature in Spanish, with a level of difficulty ranging from simple to medium.

Tandem

Something really special at ACUPARI: Our tandem program. Right on your second day of classes we introduce you to a Peruvian who is studying your language: your tandem. In your spare time the two of you are going to practice to speak in the foreign language, not in the environments of a language institute but on the way, walking the city, in a café, on excursions etc. Your tandem also goes with you to the market, explains to you the different types of fruits, what is going on in a typical market setting and much more of what you would hardly learn when coming to Cusco as a regular tourist.

... and the teachers?

Up front: the high quality of the classes is essential to us. Part of our team are eight permanently-employed Spanish teachers, who are highly qualified and continuously further trained. Many language institutes remain silent on the fact that Peruvian universities do not offer a major in “Spanish as a Foreign Language.” In cooperation with the Argentinean Association of Spanish Teachers ACUPARI has financed an additional qualification training that is a precondition for teaching at ACUPARI.
Even though the language in class is Spanish, some of the feedback we have received underlines that our teachers’ knowledge of English has been especially helpful.

Quechua classes

Quechua is primarily a spoken language and difficult to approach with traditional and academic methods. For this reason only part of ACUPARI Quechua classes take place in the classroom and only in one-on-one classes. Important is the conversation and being together with the “Quechua hablantes” in their social environment. Our Quechua learners go with their teachers to visit markets and village communities to practice by direct communication. A precondition is good knowledge of Spanish.
