The Children’s Clinic
is a church institution with both state and private
support. This hospital was founded in Cusco in 1982
and is a branch of a large children’s hospital
in Lima.
In the clinic there are between 40 and 50 physically
and mentally handicapped children under medical treatment,
the majority of which come from poor farmer families
from remote villages.
In addition to that there is an extensive outpatient
clinic with daily about 120 ambulant treatments and
medical consultations. Part of this is orthopedics,
traumatology, dentistry, pediatrics, obstetrics, as
well as a laboratory, an X-ray center and a rehabilitation
ward for physical therapy, hydrotherapy and logopedics.
Associated with the clinic is also a special school
center for mentally handicapped children, subdivided
into kindergarten and primary school. These children
come from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
to the center.
