Children´s book project

Bilingual children’s books for children in the Andes

Since 2006, the ACUPARI team has been committed to providing children in economically disadvantaged villages around Cusco with high-quality, child-friendly literature. Our sturdy hardcover children’s books are fully funded by donations and distributed free of charge to schools in the region.

Our goal is to foster a love of reading and encourage children to tell their own stories. The books are published bilingually – in Spanish and Quechua – making them especially valuable for schools in the Andean regions where Quechua is still actively spoken.

As part of our 30th anniversary in 2020, we created our fifth children’s book. The story “Pillpintu” by Melissa Dávila was awarded in a writing competition. The Cusco-based illustrator Juvenal brought the story to life with great sensitivity. The illustrations are already completed; currently, the final preparations for publication are underway in collaboration with a publisher in Lima.

Our goal: to soon bring “Pillpintu” to numerous schools in the Andean villages – as a gift to the children and as a contribution to cultural education.
