Discover Quechua – One of the Oldest Languages of the Andes

Requirement for participation: Basic knowledge of Spanish.

Quechua – or as its speakers call it: Runasimi (“language of the people”) – is much more than just a language. It is a living cultural heritage that connects you in a very special way with the Andes and its people.

Did you know that there are words in German that originate from Quechua? Terms like coca, llama, puma, or condor have their roots in this ancient language of the Inca.

As early as the 16th century, the Dominican monk Fray Domingo de Santo Tomás wrote the first grammar of the language, which had until then been passed down solely orally. Today, the Academia Mayor de la Lengua Quechua is responsible for maintaining and developing the written language – even online dictionaries are now available!

Our one-to-one Quechua courses are held as one-on-one lessons – allowing you to learn intensively and tailored to your needs. Virtual lessons are also possible upon request.

Traveling with a partner or friend? Then take advantage of the partner course option, where you can learn together flexibly with an individual schedule.

From the second week of lessons, you’ll leave the classroom: visiting markets and villages in the Andes where Quechua is spoken daily – a unique opportunity to experience the language directly in contact with the people.

Combine your Spanish course with a stay in a host family to immediately apply what you’ve learned in daily life while gaining deeper insight into Peruvian life in Cusco.
